Once in a generation a movie comes along that changes your life. For some reason, music cascades through your head, the way you walk changes, and the very way you see the world when you open your eyes in the morning is different.
The movie is perfect.
The movie has an amazing score, great acting (for its time), beautiful shots that capture scenic gorgeousness and speak a thousand words, and a great cast. It stays with you long after the credits rolled, you find yourself quoting lines to yourself just to boost up your self esteem, and you can watch it each time with the same sense of amazement that you had the first time you watched it.
It just so happens that one of those movies came out the year I was born, and I don't think that it is a coincidence. Now, just to let you know, I view The Karate Kid and Karate Kid 2 as one movie. For once in the history of movies there is a sequal that doesn't stink, but actually magnifies the awesomeness of the first.
I love Karate Kid. I have always loved it since I was a kid with my light blue Karate Kid tank top that I sadly grew out of by the time I was eight. I love it to this day and exclaim very quickly and loudly to everyone that asks what my favorite movie is "Karate Kid 1 and 2!!!"

Now, I hear of something utterly terrible. They are making a new karate kid movie (this movie will hereafter be in lower case letters to denote that it doesn't deserve any respect). Even worse, this new karate kid is not an add on, or simply another story with the same name, but they CLAIM that this karate kid is to be a REMAKE!!!!! Oh, the AUDACITY of Will Smith and his little walking afro to think that they can "remake" perfection! If that wasn't bad enough, they are in final negotiations with Jackie Chan for the part of "Mr Miyagi." Noriyuki "Pat" Morita must be doing Crane Technique kicks and Driver punches in his grave.
What a sad day for Hollywood. The least they can do is make the story completely different, don't call it a remake, and give Ralph Maccio a large part or cameo appearance. What is it with Hollywood and bad remakes, endless sequals (Spiderman 4 and 5 coming soon), and trying to write movies to fit actors, not find actors to fit stories? So, you know where Dan Bell will be when this wanna be karate kid comes out. At home, eating my amazing shrimp broccoli alfredo, and thinking to myself "Curse you Will Smith and your little boy too." [cackle cackle].

I also am a lover of KK1 and KK2! I agree with you 100%. Every word AMEN!!! My hope is that Carli will love it as much I do and share in the hobby of Bonsai trimming with me.
I KNOW! When I was a kid, I was going to marry two boys: Ralph the Karate Kid and Kirk Cameron. Sigh.
I'll be interested in seeing how the wax on, wax off will be portrayed!
Hey Karen...how are you? I am with you on the remake thing. I LOVE LOVE LOVE old movies, even with their corny acting and cinemotography. Black and white movies rock and then they take it and ruin it with terrible language, sex, crude jokes etc. I think I am going to have to watch karate kid again, i am in the mood!! we should totally boycott going to the remake of karate kid(ps..even though i do like will smith)!!
