Not only have I not yet announced here on my blog my pregnancy, but now things have taken a huge direction change in this pregnancy that we didn't expect.
So let me back up here . . . Daniel and I are expecting baby bell # 2! The due date is October 17th, and we aren't finding out what the gender is. We have felt really strongly its a girl, but we'll see if our impressions are correct or just wishful thinking ☺ Either way we'll be ecstatic and overjoyed to have this little one, boy or girl, join our family!
With Gus I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. When I hit 40 weeks with him they wanted to induce, which we did reluctantly. So since my last pregnancy went full term, and could have probably gone longer, it was a huge surprise when my water broke at 2:3O am last Saturday morning at only 30 weeks along...10 weeks early.
I woke up and thought at first that I was just losing bladder control and got up to use the bathroom. When I came back to bed I found it very wet. Silly me I still thought, to my embarrassment, that I had just wet the bed. So I cleaned it up a bit and went back to sleep. It happened again later in the morning. It wasn't till 6 am that I finally let myself put it all together and admit that my water could have broken this early. It was a scary thing to let myself concede must be happening.
So I told Dan, and we got Gus and headed off to the midwife's where she also agreed my water had broken. She called Sacred Heart in Spokane which recommend we go to Kootenai Medical Center first and get medivaced (an approx. $10,000-$25,000 helicopter ride!) over to spokane. Needless to say we refused and actually went home, threw a bag of stuff together for us and a bag for Gus. Dan's parents came rushing over and picked Gus up from us, and then Dan and I drove to Sacred Heart very quickly. It sorta felt like a scene from the movies where the husband drives like a worried maniac to the hospital with his pregnant and contracting wife beside him.We got to Sacred Heart and again it was confirmed with out a doubt that my water had broken.
Since I was only 30 weeks along, the doctor's want to keep you out of labor for as long as possible. Luckily my contractions weren't serious, just frequent braxton hicks that we got settled down after a couple days. In situations such as these women can stay pregnant for days to weeks. The goal is to make it to 34 + weeks if possible. But not matter how far we make it, everyday is a blessing. For everyday that the baby can stay and develop inside, it would take 3 days to make the same progress in the NICU. We've made it 6 days so far ☺
The Ultrasound we had on Monday showed the baby looking great. There's apparently a pretty good amount of fluid still left, baby is looking healthy and measuring on the larger side for my gestational week at approximately 5 lb 4 oz. give or take a pound either way. The accuracy of the weight estimate this far along can be pretty sketchy, but I'm pretty happy baby is looking good and healthy.
These last 6 days have been long and a roller coaster ride physically and emotionally for me. But I've felt very loved and blessed despite and through all this. I miss Gus and Daniel SO MUCH and wish they could be here all the time. It's hard to be here, but am grateful that me and baby are in the best place we could be right now.
Thanks for reading and please continue to keep us in your prayers.
